Area Rug Cleaning & Care
We protect and maintain the beauty of your home’s rugs with professional expertise. We focus on delivering lasting care that preserves both appearance and quality.
Pet Odor Removal
For many people, our pets are a vital part of our family unit. They play with us, they keep us company when we are down, and they warn us when the Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners truck is coming up the driveway. Every once in a while, our pets have bad days and accidents happen. When those accidents involve urine, the Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners truck is just what you’ll want to see because we can eliminate those unwanted odors.
- Pet urine on carpet, rugs, upholstery or leather can do much more than cause unpleasant odors. Urine deposited on area rugs does not stay on the surface. It penetrates into the fibers and contaminates both the backing of the rug and the flooring material below. Often, without your knowledge, pets will urinate continually in the same general location, causing significant contamination and damage.
- As urine dries, the liquid evaporates but the urine crystals become even more concentrated and pungent. Simple cleaning will not remove this odor. In fact, these urine crystals are frequently re-activated by moisture.
- Urine can also cause permanent color damage, either from adding color by dying the rug fibers or removing color by releasing carpet dyes.
The process used for removal of pet odors caused by urine involves soaking the rug first in order to breakdown the urine salts that create the odor. Then the rug goes through our state-of-the-art agitator and receives another soaking before treatment to ensure all contaminants have been removed.
Moth and Insect Control
Moths and carpet beetles are a major concern when found in wool rugs. They can literally destroy a rug “from the inside out”. The damage is done when the insect is in the larvae stage. The larvae feed on proteins in the rug (wool, silk, animal hair) until maturity, at which point they will remain in the same area and lay more eggs in the rug, which results in a continuous cycle of damage.
Our treatment involves applying a product that acts as a deterrent to these insects and actually makes the rug bitter to their taste. This process is very important before storing rugs. While there are no guarantees, written or implied, that moths will ever return, cleaning and treatment is the best method to combat this problem.
Be sure to look for these pests when vacuuming and, if discovered, contact us immediately.
Fringe Repair and Replacement
Fringe is the first thing to go on a rug. It’s inevitable. Years of foot traffic on individual tassels cause abrasion to the fringed areas. Vacuum cleaners and other devices within the home can cause damage as well. And they all contribute to tearing, fraying, and an eventual wearing down of the tassels or discoloration.
Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners can help brighten fringe, correct fringe that has been subjected to area rug bleeding from previous cleanings, water damage and/or urine deposits, and oftentimes can return the fibers to their original state. We can also completely remove damaged fringe and replace it to enhance the beauty of your rug. Maintaining the quality of your area rugs fringe will help retain its value and beauty.
Rug Binding and Serging
Binding and serging are two methods of finishing the outer edges of an area rug.
Area rug binding involves wrapping a strip of fabric (usually about ¼” thick – typically polyester or cotton) around the outer edges of the rug and sewing it in place with a carpet-binding machine. Virtually any color of area rug can be matched, creating a seamless, finished look.
Serging is a more expensive option and produces a hand-sewn look, also known as overlock stitching. It is most often done by a machine and creates an edge that looks as though thick fiber has been wrapped continuously around the edge of the area rug. Oftentimes there are less color options with serging than with binding.
Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners offers both services depending on your needs.
Eco-Friendly Rug Padding
Area rug pads do much more than protecting flooring. The proper rug pad is a vital component in ensuring that a rug’s fibers are protected from the crushing impact of constant foot traffic. Rug pads absorb most of this pressure and increase the longevity of fine-area rugs. Area rug pads also ensure reduced slipping and make the rug feel even more luxurious.
Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners has a complete line of rugs pads to suit all rug types and situations. All of our rug pads are Eco friendly and have obtained Green Label Plus certification by the Carpet and Rug Institute.

Do you guarantee stain removal?
If a stain has not affected the fibers permanently, we have a much higher chance of removing it. Please call us as soon as you notice the stain since taking care of it as early as possible increases our chance of success.
The tag on my rug says dry clean only… Is your method safe?
Being a dry cleaner as well we can certainly make sure the safest method is used to clean your rug. There are many factors to consider when professionally cleaning an Oriental rug. We inspect your rug carefully to determine what method is safe to use. Our area rug cleaning technicians are trained, experienced and certified to handle your investment properly.
What process do you use to clean my area rug?
We use a ten-step process that we have perfected to make sure we fit the cleaning method to the fibers, dyes and other specificities of your rug.
I had a potted plant sitting on my Oriental rug. When I moved it, there was a black stain. Can you remove this stain?
Possibly. It really depends on the extent of the damage. Another concern would be with the water and dampness from the leaky pot potentially causing the foundation of the rug to become brittle. Please give us a call so we can evaluate your rug.
Do you bleach my fringe?
We do not bleach the fringe because chlorine-based bleaches damage the fiber by weakening it. However, we do have specialty non-chlorine products that we can use to make fringes whiter.
My Oriental rug has been in a fire. Can you remove the soot and odor?
We have been successful in removing soot and fire odor in most cases. However, we can not guarantee that we can do it 100% of the time.

General Questions About Professional Rug Cleaning
How often should I clean my area rug?
The time frame for cleaning a rug depends on how much traffic it gets. We recommend professional rug cleaning be performed every 1-3 years. If pets, smokers, or people with respiratory illnesses are in your home, area rug cleaning should be performed more often.
How do I determine when it is time to clean my area rug?
To determine if it’s time to clean your rug, try one of these simple tests:
- Rub your palm on the rug for a few seconds. If your hand becomes dirty, it is time for cleaning.
- Kneel down on the rug and smell it. If you detect a foul odor, it is time to have it cleaned.
- Lift a rug corner and vigorously shake it up and down several times. If you see a dust cloud forming, it is definitely time for a cleaning.
- With the rug facing up, fold a corner of the rug back, away from the pile, to expose the base of the fibers. Have the rug professionally cleaned if there is dirt deep in the pile.
Is my rug even worth cleaning?
That is a personal decision depending on your emotional attachment, if any, to the rug and the replacement value of the rug. Many people design a whole room around their Oriental rug and replacing it could require refurnishing the entire room. It may be cheaper to clean the rug. We will be happy to give you a professional estimate for cleaning to help you make an informed decision.
What can I do if I have a flood or water damage on my area rug?
If the rug is not dried properly and completely, the cotton foundation may become weak and rot as a result. Mold and bacteria may also thrive in such a damp environment. It is best to have the area rug professionally cleaned and dried.
What is moth repellant?
It is a colorless, odorless protective coating on the area rug that moth and their larvae do not like to eat. It is 100% child and pet safe.
